Denis L., was born on June 30, 1999. He is a wonderful little boy! He resembles a little Winnie the Pooh; he is just as kind and gentle. Denis is four years old and is everybody's favorite. He came to our orphanage from the children's home. His mother abandoned the baby in the birth unit and never cared for his future fate. The baby was very frightful and cried a lot. But after a while Denis became an active participant of children's parties. He is excellent with painting, gluing and sculpturing. He plays ball with other children, bikes and sings. We love Denis greatly and really hope to find him a good family.

Sasha S., born October 15, 2000. The little boy's fate is tragic. Living in his family the 3-year old boy experienced starvation and cruel treatment. Sasha (together with his little sister) lived in an old, almost ruined house without simple conveniences. Their place was always messy, they often had no food at all at home. Kids slept just on a dirty floor. Their mother had no job, she was a bum. Very often children were left all alone in the abandoned house without food and warmth. Their neighbors, who heard the endless cries of the kids, often put some food under the door not to let the kids die. Sometimes distressed by the cries of the children their drunken mother beat them black and blue. Once not controlling herself their mother beat Sasha's little sister so heavily that the little girl died. The woman was imprisoned and the neighbors took Sasha to live with them. The boy was totally exhausted, the whole body was covered with bruises and wounds. In his 3 years he didn't talk and almost didn't move. In hospital doctors found that Sasha has a heart defect. There he was operated on heart. After the operation he came to our children's home. Now he is already 4. For the last time he's changed pretty much due to our loving attitude and attention: he started speaking bit by bit, laughing and play, but his past still has a great impression on his mentality. Sometimes he laughs or cries without any reason. But we believe that in a while he will be able to overcome this thanks to the care and kind attitude to him. Unfortunately he will not be able to become absolutely successful in his development as some serious problems with mental activities are evident.

Thanks to Lynn Trobaugh for sponsoring Sasha S.
Sasha E. born 02/28/1997. Sasha was born with signs of central nervous system damage. His mother gave up her custody rights after giving birth. He was initially admitted to the specialized care facility for children with neurological deficiencies, where he spent his early years. While there he was diagnosed with rickets and failure to thrive. Sasha was transferred to the orphanage in November, 2003. He was a very active child, had hard time concentrating, his speech was fast and loud. He also has a pronounced fear of animals. While living in the orphanage Sasha made good progress, his activity level now is closer to normal. Sasha still suffers from some developmental delay, has hard time paying attention in class and memorizing things. He sometimes needs multiple repetitions to learn a new material. However, Sasha is a very sweet boy, nice and polite. He is always eager to help and enjoys helping others.

Sasha G., born June 03, 1998. Sasha is 6 years old, but he's very small and one may say he is no more than 4. He is skinny and speaks not very well. Before his birth his 20-year old mother got rid of 7 unborn babies. Sasha was another undesirable baby, and his mother tried to get rid of him even before his birth - she used special drugs and some mechanical means, but despite this Sash was born on 28th week. His mother refused from him r ight after his birth. Because of some harmful chemicals the boy was born with cataract of both eyes, partial atrophy of the optic nerve, breach of hearing, high degree of dystrophy. Sasha has lived in our children's house for 2,5 years already. He is regularly examined by our medical staff. He receives special course of treatment. Personal exercises were also appointed for him. Thanks to all this he learned to speak, do some easy physical exercises, sing songs, model plastic objects and even paint. Sasha loves nature very much, he's fond of walking in the forest. But the consequences of the intra-uterine development caused the problems in mental activities.

Igor B., born September 30, 1997. Little Igor has 2 brothers. One of them is disabled since childhood and his grandmother is guardian to him, while his another brother Pavel is staying together with him in our organization. Pavel is 2 years older than Igor. Kids were born and lived in the family of alcohol addict people. The whole family was cooped up in a single small room; therefore all scuffles, alcoholic sessions etc took place just near them all the time. Very often drunk parents bit their kids, who were hiding behind beds and wall-clocks and sometimes dirty and hungry, they spent the whole day there. If they could they left their house and were on the tramp looking for some food: sometimes they asked people to give them something to eat, sometimes they looked for food in the trash dumpsters. Little kids had to wear ragged clothes and walk without boots even in cold winters. Once during one of their usual drunk-meetings the father of the kids killed their mother with the knife and the woman died. The man was imprisoned and kids became orphans. For a long time children couldn't recover from such a psychological strain: they didn't talk, greedily grasped the food, hid pieces of bread in their pockets or in the bed linen. The only word the could utter was "lala" (Russian for or "baby"). Now the kids get accustomed to normal life, they started talking, but the syndrome of "permanent hunger" is affecting their behavior even now, after 3 years had passed since those terrible events. The intellect level of both Igor and Pavel is very low. Only thanks to the care and love of the staff of our kids' house these kids got their childhood again.

Thanks to Sam Blagg for sponsoring Igor B.
