The staff constantly battles infections and viruses because the children are medically fragile. Their exposure to the rest of the orphanages' population makes it difficult to keep them well. The purpose of this project is to create a separate ward for the bedridden children. The aging windows will be replaced so that the cold air is kept out in the winter, 4 of them will be larger in size and will allow the staff to properly ventilate the rooms. Doors will be hung and secured in order to keep the rest of the children from wandering through and potentially passing the flu or a cold to one of the more medically fragile kids. Once the windows and doors are installed, the staff will be able to set up a special washing area for the children so that they don't have to be transported to the general bathing area where they could easily pickup a virus. In addition, specialized supplies and equipment needed to care for the children can be placed in this area and secured, along with new mattresses and beds. The orphanage was able to secure a grant for part of the project so we are under the original budget! |
