Project Description
Torez Internat is located on the outskirts of the city of Torez in a very poor, remote area of Ukraine. It was started by Leonid Nikolaevich, the current Director, in 1998 because there were so many abandoned children in the town and many extremely poor families who needed help. Because there was no other building available, he created the orphanage in several rooms of the local medical clinic. Now it is home to approximately 70 children between the ages of 2-18. In spite of many financial problems facing the institution, the Director has been able to create a comfortable place for the children. There are 52 people on staff which helps them to take good care of the children.

The purpose of this project is to provide the Internat with the tools they need to continue to teach the children several very important vocational skills. A sewing machine for tayloring, tools for woodworking and ironworking, new beds, and some sports equipment to help promote healthy activity when they are not studying.

Project’s Budget:
1 sewing machine - 1,250 GR ($250)
10 sets of hand tools - 8,250 GR ($1,650)
10 beds - 4,400 GR ($880)
sports equipment - 1,500 GR ($300)
Grand total: 15,400 GR ($3,080)
