Project Description
The Serzhantovo Children House is situated in a far-away northern district of the Primorsky region (town of Dalnegorsk) 350 Miles from Vladivostok. It is the constituent part of a school complex. There are 59 children in the House between the ages of 3 and 18, including 14 children of pre-school age. There have been no renovations completed on the bathroom in 23 years. Pipes leak water and urine from the badly worn toilets leaks under what remains of the linoleum floor. There is a makeshift shower in the corner that is composed of some hoses and a square pan. There, the children mainly wash their feet as there is no shower curtain or any private area available to adequately clean themselves. The plumbing for the sinks is inadequate and frequently backs up. Additionally, there is poor ventilation for the entire area and an unpleasant odor is always lingering. A single light hangs from the ceiling, basically useless.

This project entails considerable labor costs due to the current conditions of the bathroom. The toilets are literally cemented into the floor and major demolition will be required in order to remove the old fixtures and install the new ones. The electrical wiring will need to be completely installed since no real lighting exists currently. The staff at the orphanage always tries to do their own work whenever possible but this project is beyond even their abilities. The contractor has generously offered to reduce the cost of labor and materials by 10% in order help the orphanage!!

Project’s Budget:
Materials (doors, fixtures, plumbing, tile, electrical) - 73530 rubles
Labor for the Sanitary Engineering crew - 54330 rubles
Labor for the Electrical Engineering crew - 12693 rubles
Grand total: labor and materials – 140553 rubles ($5020)
