Project Description
The Kostroma Kids Program began in 2006. Each summer, our program provides 4 – 6 weeks of activities and field trips for all of the kids at the orphanage, including museum visits, paintball, go-karts, bowling, shopping for new clothes, movies, and forest hikes. Orphans learn to use computers provided by the program, make arts and crafts, and spend quality time together helping the kids to realize how important and special they are. Kostroma Kids Program works with local contacts and the orphanage staff to provide for the year-round needs of the kids as well as ongoing support to orphans as they leave the orphanage to pursue additional schooling. The orphanage director’s devotion to the kids and their needs is nothing short of amazing, and she leaves no stone unturned to find additional funds to provide for the 23 children in her care.

The program also supports the vulnerable orphanage "graduates" who leave the orphanage at age 16. Working with our local Russian contacts and the orphanage staff, the program provides mentors and financial support to ensure all orphanage graduates are able to continue their educations, find adequate housing, and secure jobs.  The program also provides assistance to orphanage graduates who need help with living expenses when attending technical schools, repairing government provided apartments (which are not furnished and often come without doors or windows), completing the paperwork for educational and housing opportunities, purchasing adequate clothing and necessary supplies and tools for work, and tutoring.
