Electric Power Supply for
Hope Family Commune Cost: $5,488 Status: Completed on 10/30/04. Thanks to kind donations by Scott Dean and Ron Calvert, Steve and Billie Moksnes, Regina Richter, Tatyana & Cresencio Rivera, James Bell, Microsoft Giving Campaign, Sherry Remez, Lisa Hunter, Diana Palazzolo, Sara Romfo, Jonevan Lacabanne, Vanessa & Marsha, Brigitte Peillex, Anonymous and proceeds from Latin Dance Party Benefit on 09/28/03 and Latin Dance Party Benefit on 11/09/03 Update Technical specifications and surveying has been completed. Final specifications call for $4,371. It ended up being a bit higher due to dollar falling. This is higher than the original estimate ($3,000) due to the fact that a local businessman at the end refused to pay for part of the cost as it was originally planned. Hopefully the project is completed on budget and the remainder of the funds will be allocated to a different project. Project Description Currently, the entire power supply of the Hope Commune is provided by an extension cord from a neighbor. It barely provides enough power just for basic lighting. Bringing power directly from the nearby power station will finally allow the Commune to start using basic appliances like electric stove, washer and water heater. In addition, having own power supply is a critical step towards their self-sustaining. It will provide heat for their barn and greenhouse. Kind sponsors have recently donated complete mini-plant for making furniture. Running this plant will allow the orphans to gain professional skills, provide much-needed funds and contribute to the economic development of the nearby villages. Receipts Project Cost
