Elejas bernu nams-patversme

The Elejas Child Home is located in Eleja, Latvia. The shelter serves as a home for orphaned and homeless children without guardianship, and a social rehabilitation and crisis center. The center was founded in 1992, and currently is home to 50 children ages 2-19 years old. Recently, the orphanage received extensive repairs and upgrades. In 2007 the orphanage organized a group of life skills classes that aim to prepare the children for everyday life. Children in these classes can learn cooking as well as tayloring skills.

The shelters primary task is to ensure the rehabilitation of the children medically, socially and emotionally, and to potentially reunite them with extended family or find new families for the children. The course of rehabilitation lasts from one to three months. The children work with social guardians, psychologist, logopedicians, social workers, social teachers, and children's nurses.
